    Hi everyone,

I have just started using the ProRealTime platform, and just joined this forum.

I can see the Adv/Dec indicator is available, but when I try to assign it to an index (e.g., XJO, DJI and NDX) I continually see the “Not available for this market” error message in the indicator window.

I am using the Complete platform (trial version) at the moment, and the timeframes I’ve tried are daily and weekly. I’ve tried all three Adv/Dec variants I can find – “Advance Decline line”, “Advance Decline net difference” and “Advance Decline ratio”. And repeating, I have tried this on the Dow Jones, ASX 200 and NASDAQ and am getting the same error across all three.

Is there an additional license I need, or feature I’m missing? Has anyone else successfully used this indicator?

    Thanks!

    Adam

    Hi all,

I raised this question with the people at ProRealtime and they have confirmed the way I was intending to use the Advance Decline line, isn’t the way it’s designed. I wanted to view (for example) the NDX vs its A/D line, but the way this indicator is designed, is that you view it while charting a stock in that index – so e.g., open MSFT and view the NASDAQ’s A/D line. So this is not my use case.

So I now have another question which is, does PRT’s coding language enable me to do this myself? So, create my own A/D line by getting all NASDAQ stocks, tally the upstocks minus downstocks for the period, and then create an indicator showing me the net of those two numbers.

I haven’t seen any functions that enable me to do this, but I thought I would see what this forum’s members have to say about that, or any other ideas I haven’t thought of.

    Thanks!

    Adam

You can make (almost) any indicator you want and apply it to any chart or use it in automatic trading, provided:

    • you know its formula for the calculations
    • it doesn’t need to access multiple assets (which is not possible).
