Hi guys,
- I encountered few times that PRT automatically closed after 2 mins reminder, after long run. Sometimes I wasn’t attended to the screen as doing something else while waiting back test result, thus the work was lost. Now I started to exercise periodically saving the template, but sometimes may still missed it. Is there an option/workaround to automatically save the template, either periodically or in case PRT need to automatically close?
- I usually check few times in interval when some back test will take 1-2 hours. Is there a way to notify the user (via email or computer alert sound) when back test is completed?
Thanks in advance for your feedback.
PS: Sorry if there is an existing post for the solution, thanks to guide me into it. I tried to search but couldn’t find any.
06/30/2020 at 12:42 PM #137688PRT closes down automatically every 18 hours.
So if you are starting a long optimise backtest, best practice is to close PRT and login again then you know have 18 hoursbefore auto-shutdown.

06/30/2020 at 1:33 PM #137701Thank you, GraHal for the information, I wasn’t sure if it is 18 hours. In fact, I tried to do that for long back test, but sometimes forget when it is a shorter back test (like 1.5 hour) especially not aware time is approaching 18 hours. I admit I could do better, but sometimes when too obsessed on coding, I forgot the time and come back to see the code is gone 🙁
If no option today, I will carry on to practice regular saving, or maybe add a timer to remind me that it is already 17.5 hours 🙂
But could be good to request as a feature to PRT (to allow default saving before it closes down)? Or maybe it is just me feel this hassle?
06/30/2020 at 1:35 PM #137702Hello,
That is indeed true @GraHal.
Concerning your other question ( 2.) you should send a suggestion to ProRealTime to implement such feature in the next build of the platform.
The email address is : info@prorealtime.comHave a good day!

Haha … we’ve all done the same, but in the end the repeated intense demoralisation (due to lost work) overwhelms the coding obsession! 🙂

Thank you RafaelN for your feedback. Yes, I can do that (more than willing to) after asking this question to community, at least sure it is really not possible and in case someone has workaround that I can use as well.

Yes, with mouth open wide seeing it, then next 15 mins regretting my own stupidity and scratching head recall what have I coded. I was hoping someone has some workaround, if indeed none yet, then I will send my suggestion to PRT…
07/21/2020 at 4:26 AM #139720Today I find it extremely frustrated when again I loss everything as PRT close automatically without saving. I’m quite sure I press CTRL + S after I let the test run, but I still find the issue. I suspect there is an issue on saving, where after I modify and run the test, I press CTRL + S, it is actually not saving it.
Earlier I sent my feedback to support@prorealtime.com and PRT responded that the suggestion will be looked into for future build (which I appreciated), but I think we need a more surely answer that the saving feature will be implemented in next build. I can’t imagine it is just my problem, knowing some PRT users, they also have similar frustration. I don’t really think it is reasonable to allow an application has the tendency to loss the precious work, it should be put on priority to help user conserve their work than any other features.
07/21/2020 at 4:45 AM #139722Now I loss my motivation, working for several hours and now I have to repeat the cycle again. I might just delete the whole out dated strategy as I don’t know what I’m doing anymore. This limitation is making me demotivated. I hope PRT really understand the hard work of user has to put into developing strategy and make conserving our work as priority.
07/21/2020 at 8:04 AM #139728I sympathise!
Most of us have been exactly the same and have felt like giving up and feel like smashing PRT to bits!!!
The next phase is feeling like bashing head against the wall due to wishy-washy responses from PRT (I’m talking generally on other Issues also).
I then didn’t use PRT for many months a while back.
Then we think … am I going to invest years of my life on another Platform … NO so I will have to live with the Issues!
Workaround is to …
Close and Save whenever you have done significant work!
Close and Save before you start a long backtest!

07/21/2020 at 7:26 PM #139783Thanks, @Grahal. I think I will be better after few days later. Haha. Indeed hassle, but seems no other better option until PRT confirmed going to implement it in next build. Spending 1-2 mins more (close and save) is still better than loss the work for few hours.
