Well… yep, im with IG and yep. I use the 24h spreadbet markets, but I have noticed that some algos just perform better if not active during certain periods, so I adjust the times accordingly and in order to see the performance of the algo, need to readjust every time I start a new session.
Try it.. i guess its down to lower volume or something overnight? I mainly trade the dax.
01/12/2021 at 12:15 PM #157514Well I agree with above re overnight may be bad etc, but I hard code the Times I want to trade within the strategy.
Why would you not do above? Seems far easier than changing times on the Platform … just another faff??
Also if you code times in strategy you can even optimise them! It’s surprising how starting at 06:00 or 7:00 or even 09:00 can make a big difference and same with trading end times.
01/12/2021 at 12:19 PM #157516Hmmm, yeah, i see what you mean… but then.. doesnt that mean that the algo results and chart results look different? Obvs bars dont change but anything that works stuff out based periods not in your trading time would, wouldnt they?
or maybe im over complicating things – very possible!

Where are you seeing algo results?
anything that works stuff out based periods not in your trading time would, wouldnt they?
Yes but I still want, for example, moving averages to be worked out on bars before 09:00 start of my trading as I want to align with overall market direction etc.
But I not want to be whipsawed in and out of trades as can be the case before 09:00 when the investors are buying Tesla etc??

Yeah, also a good point, so i guess my question is why wouldnt you want the chart to represent your algo? At the very least, both is better and id imagine thats why the feature is there.
if i hard coded my trading times in, i wouldnt need to change the chart times when activing the aglo, but id still want to change it to see the actual trades, inidicators, reasons for any dodgy entries/exits.
The fact it doesn’t hold the setting isnt the end of the world, probably just a nice to have option.

You would still see above (during trading times) but you would see big gaps with no trades overnight during nil trading times.
