Grahal – I just noticed that a load of descriptions are missing from the snippet library – has someone accidentally deleted some of the sheet?
As ‘Keeper of the library’ perhaps you can check and restore it if this is the case.
12/22/2019 at 10:40 AM #115365Thanks for the prompt … I will restore later today … in a rush as going ‘early doors’ drinking at 10:30 then on to a Rock Panto!! 🙂
I noticed last week that a 4 links were missing which I restored. Maybe users are cutting and pasting Links into their browsers instead of copying and pasting??
I think the time has come that we need to limit edit access to the Sheet to Moderators + and anyone who specifically requests Edit Access … what you reckon??
Or we can live with me restoring for a while and see how it goes?
Maybe whoever deleted the Descriptions will own up now – after this post – and deletions will not happen again?
12/22/2019 at 10:46 AM #115366I suggest adding limits to editing.
12/22/2019 at 12:39 PM #115367If you have to go to a panto then at least make sure that it is a rock panto and that you have had a few warm up drinks first!
I think you should limit edit access to whoever you think can be trusted. It will save you some work in the long run I think.
12/23/2019 at 10:54 AM #115408Recent Issue
I have restored the complete 19 Dec 19 version of the Snippet Library.
The recent block deletion of 4 or 5 cells under the Col C (Description) was worrying in that a further single cell under Col C had also been deleted and other Col C cells no longer aligned correctly with their Col B (Log number). Hence why I restored the most recent correct looking full version.
Going Forward
If a User were to screw the Snippet Link Library in a way that nobody noticed (near the date of screw up) but a User later shouted up … “Hey the Link Library is screwed up” etc … then it could be very difficult / time consuming to locate when it went wrong in order to correct the error from a Previous Version.
How can we make good out of bad??
- Yes, I could allocate Edit Access to only those who request it, but their email addresses could be found under Share settings (I need to check on this) and also a gmail account would be needed for such Edit Access.
- What about having a Sticky Thread on this Forum with a link to the Snippet Library giving everybody View Access (able to copy links). Anybody who wants a snippet adding to the Library, then posts – on the Sticky Thread – the link to the snippet they want adding to the Snippet Library and I add to Library at least once per week each weekend?
- Any other idea you can think of??
12/29/2019 at 12:09 AM #115550I could copy the library to my site and host it as posts, they could be tagged with types making them searchable
