I´m a new PRC user since one week. I find the program easy to code and backtest. I´ve created indicators, screeners and strategies.

Some strategies show really solid results 🙂 But – I Think maybe the results are to good to be true…

What are the most common mistakes beginners do?

And about spreads/COSTs involved running an autotraded strategy?

Can you really use the spreads indicated at IG:s homepage?

Are there other COSTs running them than the spread?

They are 0.5point for OMXS30 and 1point for DAX during day time. I´m aware of that the spreads are higher during other times.

I´m hopeful to get some good answers on those basic questions so I can proceed with good confidence!

    Have a nice evening!

Spreads are true, but for a few temporarily highly volatile times.

One possible error is the 0-bar issue. PRT assumes TP is hit first when both SL & TP occur on the same bar. There’s an option to be ticked before starting backtest, tick-by-tick, to work it around. Upcoming v11 will ALWAYS have tick-by-tick built-in.

Another common error is overfitting, that is using settings, say for averages,  to make past data behave as you would like, this distortion of the past will bring no good in the future.

An useful tool to optimize and analyze strategies is to use WF, Walk Forward. If you search this forums you’ll find much about it.

    Hi, welcome in our forums.

As Roberto stated, a good practice for developing a trading system is by dividing the history into 2 separated part, the IS (in-sample period, used to develop the strategy) and the OOS (out-of-sample period, used to test the system, as it would be when you launch it in live trading). Good luck 😉
