Not so good at my end. A £5 per pip trade on the SP500 that I tried to close out a couple of days ago for what would have been a £60 win (but could not close because the PRT platform would not let me so I ended up leaving it running) just hit its emergency stop for a £800 loss . Just before the massive drop I talked myself out of doing a hedging short that would have turned the whole thing into a win. Strong drink is required.
02/05/2018 at 10:51 PM #6161002/05/2018 at 11:03 PM #61611This does seem like a massive over reaction to some good jobs data from the US but I fear the underlying reason is that the return to risk of equities has dropped so far that bonds are now looking more attractive than they previously were and the jobs data was just a trigger. I’m also guessing that the big boys who have been buying all the way up are now having their own take profit get out stops hit hence the rapid decline. Either way I’ve turned off all my strategies until things settle down.
Ironically while my live account was losing big my latest demo strategy was winning big. Sods law.
02/05/2018 at 11:06 PM #61612Below may be one reason for the drop … in the Dax anyway? But all World Indices are down, I guess the fear and panic spreads quick?
I also managed to get out just before the massive drop! Also all my Strats are turned off … from last night!

02/05/2018 at 11:41 PM #61613Lost 180 pips in the SP500 in a blink. Thank goodness I checked prorealorder when I returned home and when I saw the SP500 I almost shit on my pants. My SL was 500 points. I decided to stop all the systems.
For a moment I thought I was not following my good practice of letting the systems to run by themselves without interference, but I am glad I had that reaction. I would have lost 500€ in just 30 minutes.
I guess next week is to stop all the strategies and prepare some popcorn to watch the show from outside.
I hope everyone is OK 🙂
02/05/2018 at 11:52 PM #61614What would be interesting to know is if anyone had some problem with proorder (placing trades) during the time volatility spiked up?
i had prorealtime running and had no problem and had some systems running in proorder but no trades (filters)
02/06/2018 at 6:01 AM #61624I red on twitter that a lot of people had issues with there orders at the evening drop. I was flat so couldn’t let myself if it was the same for me. I actually closed a sell trade in dax on -10p yesterday . Would have been nice to see that one still open..

All that time spent developing long strategies and now I have to break out the shorts for winter!

02/06/2018 at 9:08 AM #61637Lol @Vonasi, i have Long only systems 😀
My systems have been kind and not gone into any stupid trades.
My thoughts as to why this is happening is just that the market really needs a correction. If everyone is expecting it, then everyone is just “waiting for a reason” to close positions… If 95% of the market is scared and just waiitng, it shouldnt take much to make the majority act.
I have been saying that the stock market is way way way due for a correction for a long time, i know im not the only one. I also sold all my shares a week ago when things where starting to look scary. And i think “everyone else” is selling as crazy.
But the 1000 pip drops in global markets is just INSANE, not sure if this is the beginning of the end, or just a massive overreaction
Im VERY unsure of wether or not to run my “long only” systems now…

Lets hope ESMA give us negative balance protection and that IG give us optional guaranteed stops in proorder before then
02/06/2018 at 11:56 AM #61665Hi!
My systems made it. I wonder if anyone has traded with proorder in a Limited risk acount? Talked to swedish IG a week ago and they said it was PRT limitations that its not possible to use guaranteed stops in proorder with an ordinary acount. And the only way to get stops was to get a Limited risk acount.
