My girlfriend has had an IG account for a while now and traded live with it when she first opened it. She has not done any live trading for a quite a while but I have been using her demo account for development work and forward testing using PRT. Today I logged in to IG to find that they had stopped access to the demo account unless my girlfriend starts trading four times a month. So that is a whole bunch of code and forward test results wiped out and gone forever. Thanks IG and a merry Christmas to you too!
How IG think this is a good way to encourage people to trade is beyond me – they wait for someone to have used their demo account to build up confidence and experience and gain some forward testing results and then without even a polite email to say anything they wipe it all out. That sort of behaviour is more likely to get rid of any potential customers rather than encourage them to trade.

Double bloody Merry Christmas from IG!
Unbelievably I just logged into another of my accounts to find that IG had also stopped access to PRT via the demo account for that one too. So that is another 25 long term forward test results lost and a mass of coded strategies and indicators lost.
I have back ups of the code but I have now lost the will to add it all back into my one and only remaining accounts demo platform.
If you don’t see me on these forums for a while it is because I am bashing my head against a brick wall somewhere while chanting the words ‘F***ing IG!’ over and over again.

From off forum discussions with other moderators it seems that IG has had a massive lock down on what it considers to be idle accounts. At least two other moderators have had demo account access to PRT removed. The fact that we all have forward testing going on and are regularly active on our PRT demo accounts testing ideas and creating code that encourages others to trade with IG via PRT seems to count for nothing with IG. The fact that we are regularly active on demo means that we are all active users who could just be about to put a whole bunch of strategies live tomorrow or even just be providing indicators and strategies and ideas to others who will then use them to go live.
It seems a little bit silly of IG to close demo account access to PRT for active users – even if they are only active on demo at the moment as I can absolutely confirm that I will not be putting any of the 50 strategies that I had on forward test live as I now no longer have the results to confirm that I should be going live with them!
It seems that IG might be shooting themselves in the foot.

Likewise, the same has happened to me with my non-Live demo.
However, something I spotted may be a life-line:-if you do not clear your browser’s History, then the IG PRT url link should still be there. This seems to contain the login details (at least for demos) and a click will launch the Demo PRT without being logged in to the IG platform. This worked ok for me on Chrome, haven’t tried it on any other browsers. Obviously, not a solution for ongoing dev, but enough to get in and save your work.
