I do get that window (you hate) and have always thought … why has that appeared? Appearance was not consistent so didn’t register with me how and why!
Anyway, just did some Tests and I can tell you how, maybe, to avoid getting that window (you hate)! I have never found a use for it, like you? Why do PRT give us changes we don’t want, but dont give us changes we do want?

Dear MODS, please move the requested posts #187838 to #187864 – to a new topic “Superfluous Windows – Ongoing Annoyance”
02/09/2022 at 4:49 AM #187927@GraHal, I have reasons to believe that via-via someone might be looking into this all (and after all). For now I thus feel like continuing on your and my behalf and hopefully on the behalf of many others which remain quiet (traders may be of a special kind ?).
Because I really have more due than the couple of (off topic) posts so far, I think I’d have to start that new topic myself and copy-paste my posts from your topic to my own.
Why I don’t see a full commitment of PRC moderators I don’t know, but it is something I now explicitly complaint about as well, yesterday.
I know this is again a kind of off-topic posting, but I like it to be behind the scenes somewhat, while you (GraHal) know what is going on anyway. Point in this context is : my contact kind of refuses to believe that nothing happens with anything. “Then mods would have told PRT by now”. I again referred to my (our) list from a year ago, which by now should be an advantage because it is a sheer proof.I was asked to point to topics or posts in here (which are better than a cold list), so from now on at least I myself will take notes and/or preserve links to topics like this one.
I promised to not get myself a Bounty the upcoming fortnight yet.PS: I am not good at this, knowing that eventually the ones I talk to and try to persuade, will read this too. It’s the drawning man thing – they should understand by now.

02/09/2022 at 4:55 AM #187928And so, one for this topic :
The size of the Editor itself. It can’t be set and remembered for the next session.
People may attest that this is not a big deal, but when the code is somewhat larger, it becomes annoying from a couple of angles which may be too hard to explain. Most relates to how comments work out. But also, certain comments (or arguments to them) don’t allow wrapping. So they fall outside of the window and reading them back or edit them, becomes cumbersome.1 user thanked author for this post.
02/09/2022 at 6:12 AM #18793802/09/2022 at 5:41 PM #187985The resized window cannot be saved!
Oh YES it can and it does!!!!! 🙂
PRT have been fixing behind the scenes … thank you soooo much PRT Devs!
But how can PRT have fixed it as my last Platform update was 31 Jan 22?? The fix must have been applied at the Server end??
Try it and tell me I am not imagining it!? Click on link above to see which window I am referring to.
02/09/2022 at 6:11 PM #187986Oh YES it can and it does!!!!! 🙂
Can’t it be that you forget to re-open the Editor ?
Reopening that Variables window always retained its size. But not if you reopen the Editor window (I just tried).02/09/2022 at 6:52 PM #187987So I …
- drag the variables window to full screen size, I then close the variables window.
- run the optimiser and the Editor closes (as I always leave ‘Keep Window Open’ box unticked).
- When the opti completes there is no Editor open, so I click on the System title and clcik on Modify ProBacktest (thereby opening the Editor).
- Then click the wrench to get to the variables window and it is still full size.
Is above what you get??
02/10/2022 at 8:41 AM #187997It seems hard to make anything of it. The least there is no consistency. Notice that I use two strategies on two instruments back and forth. Let’s say that 3 out of 4 the window size of the variables remains. And with that I have the checkbox “leave Editor window open” unticked.
It kind of feels like the variable’s window size is retained because the Editor (environment ?) itself is saved when closing it (that would be logic). But as said, it often does not work out.
There could be a relation with the variables window itself is save when the editor is closed. But for that it has to be open first ? Yea, I think that’s it. It now occurs that if the Editor is re-opened, the variables window is opened along with it.Otherwise, sorry to say that I can’t judge changes, because I always leave open the Editor. And then the variables window can be closed, and at opening it again (the wrench) it’s size is retained.
In the end this is the total mess of “saving” as such. There must be a special employee there, dedicated to saving. And he/she does not understand this well.
But to be complete : this does not count for all saved for Charts. This is perfect, if you’d ask me. But that is in control of the Chart’s Saver bloke. 🙂1 user thanked author for this post.
02/10/2022 at 8:51 AM #187998PS: I sure can see they are (I’d say) messing a bit with things. The Jan 31 update seems to incur for other small anomalies as well. (FWIW, because it tells nothing in the end – new versions emerge without update as well, and version nrs did not change anyway – the right hand one as at November IIRC, also with the same v number).
What I should add as a kind of counterweight to my own expressions about solving things, is that PRT is actually the best in creating bugs, and solving them right away when they notice. I’m not referring to the former, but the combination; when I notice an oddity (which may be harmful to others) I bring this across, and usually the same it is is solved again. This always comes along with the message “please restart the platform”. This summarised, PRT is very very careful with changes, and they seem to pro-actively watch out for making mistakes (with always the idea behind it that it is about $$ you could lose over platform anomalies).

02/11/2022 at 10:02 AM #188043I again referred to my (our) list from a year ago
At least we are consistent with our asking …
https://www.prorealcode.com/topic/definition-of-variables-window-sizing-want/#post-159165
sorry to say that I can’t judge changes
So my euphoria and big thanks to PRT Devs was ungrounded? 🙁
I agree, the definition-of-variables-window does not retain the (bigger) size we set except for 1 session / 1 System.
Anyway, I would expect / hope PRT would type a few words on this Forum similar to … we made a change, try it now??
But likely PRT not want us to get too excited in case we increase the number of Suggestions for Improvement we make?? I know I have a ton of them, but it’s easy to get dissilusioned and think … what’s the point, changes take years, if ever?? 🙁
I have to feel good / on an up day to submit Suggestions, but nonetheless I will from time to time! Onward and Upward from our side anyway! 🙂
