Hello,
I recently upgraded my demo account by connecting my IBKR account and started paying for a premium membership.
Since doing so, I have lost the menu options for using ProTrader.
Before those options were under the trading tab. I created a second prorealtime account and I can verify when connecting under another account those options exist so it seems to be account specific.
It seems to be an issue with my prorealtime platform when it’s using IBKR. So my other question is, how do I setup backtesting on my IBKR account as that is where I would like to autotrade from in the future.
Any ideas how to get these features back?
Sorry this might seem amateur but I looked through available resources and couldn’t find any documentation. ProRealTime hasn’t responded to my emails either.
Thanks!
06/01/2021 at 11:23 PM #170938Hi nate – Although your posted image does not show, I am quite confident this is about IBKR not supporting AutoTrading (yet). It does though in “Demo”.
I know this is quite confusing up to misleading, but it just is so. However :You will have a “ProRealtime Sponsored” PRT-IG account for free**, and *there* you can AutoTrade all right. But careful, because in there things are a little different as you pay the Spread instead of Commission.
**): Once you have that account up and running, 4 trades per month will make it Free as such.

Unfortunately I may be out of luck as the trading.prorealtime.com website requires me to enter my country code, then redirects me back to the main software site. The website prorealtime.com clearly says connecting my IBKR account provides me with full trading features, so I would say it’s 100% misleading. I can’t sign up for the IG sponsored account in Canada it appears. I would also be slightly happier if they didn’t disable paper trading on my platform as that allowed me to backtest with the prorealcode auto trading strategy I purchased.
Hopefully ProRealTime will reply to my emails to clarify my options.

@Nicolas, this is something I saw coming and wanted to inform you about. But I forgot.
… None of the Market Place products show “IG” as a prerequisite, while it clearly is that. If I read Nate’s message correctly, he purchased something from the Market Place, and now can’t use it.
When Nate purchased something outside of the Market Place, the problem is almost the same as the seller of concern should have the responsibility of knowing where his product can be operative. Read : (IMHO) It is not the responsibility of the Market Place, although a formal checkbox or something “Is IBKR compliant” would be a good thing for you.It is a bit more complicated even – see next post.

With the greatest precaution (because I don’t know all), I’d like to pass this data to you :
In North America (and Canada) it is not allowed to work via the PRT servers (which reside in Europe). This is legal stuff. This is the reason why you *are* allowed to trade for real via the API, which is a local happening (now North American rules will apply normally).
Under these conditions you can just as well forget AutoTrading via PRT. The API will plainly not support that, although this is my educated guess; the whole Autotrading system is one of servers.
To give you an example of this : the API requires Trader Workstation (TWS) to be active in (your LAN somewhere) as well. If the trading would be controlled locally (and it is in your situation) the Autotrading would be dealt with locally just the same. So what will happen if either PRT or TWS stopped working ?
IOW, it is just not made for that.
On an other note it should still be possible to have that Demo account (this will have disappeared because the API version really is a different “executable”). Your old Demo account will still be available (I see no reason why not). You may have to ask for it.
