PRT and CPU Usage

Not completely unrelated and possibly in thread elsewhere, keep in mind antivirus etc protection.

On Bitdefender Total Security here and it will balloon out available ram and can also trigger CPU at times. The ram part is a design feature to balloon out a bit for housekeeping / gen op (and release when needed) but I’ve seen it blow out to ~3GB (and keep going) which is a little bit big IMO on a 16GB pc and see +6GB on 32GB, other punters based on community posts have also seen numbers way beyond this too, specifically those moving big files / data / io.

It can get to the point where BD uses most if not all ram available worst case!

At one point with ~3GB used by ‘bdservicehost’ closing PRT released close to 80% of this figure (it’s not been repeatable at this stage).

I don’t believe this a PRT problem but an amount of data you use overall (what’s processed). Some have seen there figures marry with NIC usage stats.

Problem is, this has been ongoing since 2019 now and is an ongoing pita for some. Switching out to other sec.platforms resolves issues for most, if not all.

    Resetting NIC resets ram consumption.

A complete BD re-install can resolve issues for some. There was some kind of update pushed out last night not sure whether definitions or engine.

Post updates, saw figures creep to +1300MB and then reduce to 600MB. This was after a complete re-install.

I have no issue with it ballooning, so long as it housekeeps it and releases when needed. With what you ladies and gents are doing any ram housekeeping snafus are going to be painful if resources dry up.

@ PeterSt the spikes attached above may have been BD underneath but at the time it wasn’t obvious or I was too lazy to dig further, what you said makes sense. FWIW, with ‘new’ templates I no longer see CPU bouncing around, for now.
