Good Day
Have anyone else experienced the issue with PRT where all the buttons on the platform becomes unresponsive including the exit button requiring me to end the application via task manager. This does not happen on every instance of running the application but now that I bought a new Laptop with Win 10 (latest Java version installed) it happens extremely often. I have logged a ticket with PRT.

I also believe that PRT is very inefficient with system resources as it manages to eat through 8GB of RAM after about 2 or so hours of work without releasing RAM. Had to upgrade to 16GB RAM.
12/07/2017 at 7:13 PM #55005juanj I agree re ‘eating RAM’ and I’ve had same issues you mention above – Platform hanging / freezing. but not as much since I got more RAM, but happened a week or two back for no good / apparent reason … had to exit via Task Manager!

12/09/2017 at 11:34 PM #55242Mine used to do this all the time and it was infuriating – but it has not done it for ages now. In fact I can now run a Demo PRT and a Complete PRT at the same time for hours at a time with no lock ups. I have changed nothing about the way I use PRT – in fact I have probably used it more heavily with more windows open and both demo and complete running backtests at the same time. I have however during the time between regular lock ups and now had to fix many PC issues with Windows 10 updates and excessive RAM usage by other apps. So I would guess this is more likely an individual computer issue rather than a PRT issue.

Having written the last post I have now had to shut down PRT using the task manager twice this week. On the last occasion I lost an indicator and a strategy that I had written which had taken most of the day to get right. I’m surprised you all didn’t hear the swearing.
Task Manager showed the Java running PRT to be stuck at over 3000MB of memory use. I had one chart open with one indicator on it and one strategy being tested.
…. and my girlfriends suggestion…… ‘you should have saved it!’
12/30/2017 at 9:10 PM #56892For info / reference … I just had to shut my PRT Platform using Task Manager!
I could close windows but not open any new windows, but I could not Quit … Quit just wouldn’t respond and I closed everything else on my PC and left it for 10 mins or so, but still no response.
By any chance, did it happen to anybody else tonight (Sat 30 Dec 17 @ 20:00)??

12/31/2017 at 9:55 AM #56937The same thing has happened to me this week but I was dealing with so many issues already after the last Windows10 update that I just put it down to that. I had an awful lot of stuff open on the laptop including PRT in both demo and complete. I lost a lot of work yet again – frustrating. When you are in the zone honing in on a coding solution it is difficult to remember to press CTRL+S regularly. I also had my laptop black screen shut down while working in PRT this week – very worrying. I’ve also noticed now that if I have demo and complete PRT open at the same time one of them shows the PRT logo on the taskbar but the other shows the Java logo now.
01/01/2018 at 8:57 PM #57025Just happened again. I had PRT up and running all day working on a strategy. One chart and four other windows open only. I ran a backtest and the results window was on top – I then accidentally did a mouse scroll with the wheel and it selected a result lower down the table and PRT locked up. Probably lost loads of work again as I’m sure it was much earlier in the day that I did CTRL+S. This is getting annoying.
01/03/2018 at 10:27 AM #57088….and again. I started up PRT demo with two charts loaded with only one or two simple indicators. I loaded a strategy onto one chart and went to click on the spanner in the equity chart and PRT was unresponsive. I noted that the task bar symbol was not the correct PRT one but the Java one. Java was locked at 1.02GB of RAM usage. PRT had been open for only 5 minutes maximum.
GraHal, Juanj and I cannot be the only one’s having these PRT unresponsive issues but with Nicolas’s permission I’d like to continue posting here each time I have a lock up and would like to encourage others to do the same so that we might have some sort of record to see how big the problem is and so as to assist PRT in solving it.
My worry is that one day I will try to close out a position and find that I can’t until I have crash closed PRT and re-loaded it – all of which takes some time and could result in a big loss.
01/05/2018 at 1:15 PM #57359….and again. I ran a new strategy on a DAX 30min chart on Demo and after the results came up PRT became unresponsive. Java was stuck at 1.89GB. I could minus the windows down to the task bar but when I tried to expand them again only the top tool bar was available.
Is anyone else getting this happening as regularly?
01/05/2018 at 1:35 PM #57362OK – so I fired up PRT demo again. Then changed the chart to 30min and loaded the same strategy on the 10K bars. I then changed the chart to 100K bars and the strategy reloaded and everything became unresponsive again – exactly the same as before. So I crash stopped PRT again and reloaded it and this time changed the chart to 100K bars before loading the strategy and all was fine. Maybe some clues for PRT in there somewhere?
01/08/2018 at 10:25 AM #57675…and another hang that required an END TASK crash close. I had about six windows open (two of which were me checking a live strategy performance) and then when I went back to PRT from doing something else there was only two open windows – a chart and a market list and the header bar. I could not drag the chart or close anything down. Demo only started about an hour ago. Stuck at 550MB RAM usage.
Is it just me?
01/08/2018 at 10:44 AM #57677No not just you Vonasi same just happened to me for 5 mins either side of 10:25 AM ish.
I was going to send a Technical Report but I was frozen on a Screener window, couldn’t close the Screener and none of the other 7 windows I had open would respond! I closed my browser etc and left for a few mins but made no difference!
I had to close using Task Manager!
I think the fact that both of us were ‘frozen out’ over the same 10 min time period is either a very BIG coincidence or indicates that the freeze out starts with a PRT Server issue!!??
