I sometimes used to have such freezing issues at PRT when I had my IG account. I always started my PRT via the IG trading platform (in that top menu something like Extras – PRT). Within the IG platform the only thing I had was one sub-window for opened/pending positions (most of the time empty). Now, when PRT freezed, I still had my IG platform working and could work with that (blindly because graphs needed flashplayer and I did not want that on my machine). But the surface was working even if PRT became completely unusable. Maybe that’s an emergency exit.

I have a real money live automatic trading position open on the SP500 DFB on my Complete platform that I was considering closing manually but the ”x’ next to the position line on the chart is unresponsive as is the ‘x’ in the Open Positions window – so I am unable to close the position. I will have to try changing my settings to close positions if I stop a strategy and then try stopping the strategy to close it. It is this sort of situation that I was worried about when PRT started becoming unresponsive/hanging. I have sent a technical report to PRT.

You said you have sent a technical report but we have still not received any emails from you to support@prorealtime.com to inform us what is your account number (as I guess you are a direct IG customer). As I have already written a few times, we only directly receive the technical reports of IG sponsored by ProRealTime customers. If you are not in these category, and you do not give us your IG account, we will never be able to retrieve your technical report and analyse it, as it is received directly by your broker.

Yes I am an IG direct customer. I do also have a PRT account but I have not had time to fund it or transfer all my strategies and indicators over yet so I cannot yet report whether that account has the same issues. I was not aware until recently that there was so much difference in the levels of support offered depending upon who an account was opened through and none of this is made very clear at the account opening stage. It seems like a very over complicated system to report issues and a bit pointless giving IG customers the ability to send reports that are never read by the people who really need to read them – which might explain why I have been receiving what are clearly automatic email responses from IG with really unhelpful suggestions like ‘have you tried closing the platform down and starting it again?’ Of course I have!
I have now emailed you with my account numbers.
To be honest with you I am a little bit frustrated by the amount of time and effort needed just to report an issue. I have wasted more time on this than I have spent time on actual trading and strategy creation recently and added to the continuous need to close down PRT and restart it and continuous need to rewrite lost code I am getting very little trading or development work done.

I have lost count today of the number of times PRT Demo has hung on me. I’ve lost two new strategies and two new indicators that I was in the middle of writing. One of the strategies I wrote twice and lost twice and one of the indicators I wrote three times and lost three times due to PRT hanging and needing to be closed with the task manager. I have been trying most of the day to complete a backtest and not managed a complete run through without hanging yet. Yesterday I was unable to close a bet manually due to PRT Complete being unresponsive and that position is currently now running a big loss. I would not be surprised if PRT could hear me swearing in their offices.
I am on the verge of giving up with PRT altogether.
This issue is not resolved until the PRT platform stops hanging and I would suggest that the resolved/unresolved flag be changed back to the correct indication.
02/02/2018 at 11:22 PM #61310@Vonasi: I haven’t read the whole thread so maybe it has already been said but I read that you use PRT Demo. I tried this myself and came to the conclusion that the demo version is hardly usable. There are a lot of strange things happening that don’t happen with the same strategies on a live-account. I pointed this out to PRT and got the response that they are aware of all the bugs in the demo version but that they don’t have resources to maintain both demo and live platform. This is why they focus on the live-accounts.
However I do all my developing and backtesting on my live-account. Also my live-account has significantly more historic data than my demo account but this is maybe only for me like this.

I have been mainly developing on Demo recently as I have been trying to closely monitor the 25 strategies that I have running on there at the moment (God how I wish they would up that stupid limit!) Also due to the high demand on RAM from PRT and the fact that I am currently on a 4G connection having two platforms opened seemed rather memory and data hungry. Apparently IG’s answer to me not being able to close a trade on PRT yesterday was that I should have a third platform running i.e the IG platform too! I have just managed to open a Premium platform account and so I hope to be transferring all my strategies etc over to that within the next few days if I get time and then hopefully I will have less issues. To me it seems crazy to offer a Demo platform that is useless and unreliable as this is the advert that gets people to buy into the main product. I would have given up on PRT very quickly if my only experience of it had been the Demo platform.

The RAM used increasing rapidly is significant!?

The above System (on my Live Account) will not open and has been ‘sitting there’ doing nothing for over 30 minutes.About 1 hour ago I had opened the above same System and backtested it with with no issues at all.
I have not made any changes to the code since it opened and backtested normally earlier this morning.
Mmm … in the last 3 minutes the RAM used has increased from a steadyish 750 ish to now 1600 ish and increasing faster even while I am typing this (1833 now)!?

Graham02/05/2018 at 1:00 PM #61542Further to above, I closed PRT, but left everything else the same (14 Google tabs left open etc).
I then opened the same System as I was having the trouble with before … it opened and backtested over 1000 bars (same number of bars as with the problem) and it opened in about 5 seconds!
I quickly went to the Technical Report screen and the RAM went up to about 900 and then quickly back to 475 ish then up to 900 and repeat etc.
Deffo seems top be related to ‘PRT hogging RAM’ Issue as when PRT doesn’t hog RAM (as above) there is no Issue.
