Am I going gaga or what!?:)
Attached is what I see using the code below from the standard PRT Indicator set.
The GRAPH function is showing when the MACD Signal Line crosses over zero NOT when the MACD crosses the MACD Signal Line!?
I’m sure I’ve highlighted this before, so maybe my brain is doing a double take on (my) incorrect logic or way of looking at things?
Surely such a basic Indicator as the MACD can’t be wrong in the standard PRT listings???
Thanks
GraHalPS Attached is the choice I have in the PRT Listing and what I picked for the GRAPH function.
1GRAPH MACDline[12,26,9](close) crosses over MACD[12,26,9](close)…
02/28/2018 at 11:33 AM #6410802/28/2018 at 11:45 AM #64113But that is pathetic and totally confusing of PRT???
What chance have newbie coders got if they have to remember a work around code for the MACD????????
MACD Line is universally accepted as the faster line / blue line and the MACD Signal is universally accepted as the slower line / red line … not the flippin ZERO Line!!!!!!!!!
Blue line (named MACD) and red line (named Signal) are shown as such in PRT screens and appear as such if one selects Indicator MACD.
Honestly at times I feel like packing it all in!!!!!!!
Come on PRT Moderator please comment???

PS I’m done for the day now … I feel like punching somebody’s lights out 🙂 … the more so as I’m 99% sure I highlighted this ages ago via the PRT Suggestions Form … but of course I can’t check because there is no facility for looking at previous Suggestions etc on the PRT website!
Only way I could is to do search on my emails and then only if PRT replied (which they haven’t on my last 2 Suggestions I sent in!!!) . If I search for MACD on email imagine how many hits I’d get.
If PRT just sent an Automatic reply with a copy of what I sent them on the Suggestion Form then at least I’d know what I’d sent in to PRT. I’ve been over all this also time and time again!!!! Time to give up and start living again!!!!!!
As you can see this has really rattled my cage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
02/28/2018 at 11:52 AM #6411702/28/2018 at 12:02 PM #64118Yeah but a Newbie Coder would just read up on websites what MACD is then think … ah this sounds a useful Indicator that loads of folk use!!!
Then Newbs Coder starts coding and selects MACD crossing over MACD Signal from the standard PRT Indicator listing …. and yes they are called MACD and MACD Signal … then the Newbs coder finds the results not as he expected (and as all the dozens of websites have educated him to expect!).
Come on PRT get this sorted ASAP for the sake of our Sanity and belief in your Product!!!!????????
Align your terminolgy / calculations for the MACD with everyone else PLEASE

02/28/2018 at 1:09 PM #64132It also confused myself each time, you are not alone grahal 😆
I’m now used to construct my own MACD in my own code or for customers. It saves me from long debugging sessions like I had in the past because of the names of these instructions. If I remember correctly we already had this kind of discussion also for Alligator and the colors differences with other trading platforms.

02/28/2018 at 9:57 PM #64150The point is that the command
1MACDline[12,26,9]does not yield the MACD signal line, but the so-called MACD signal (in the standard PRT indicator), which is the difference between MACD and the signal line. Someone has mixed up these two while coding them.
But who uses MACD or similar indicators anyway for real trading systems ? In my eyes, they create too many unreliable signals because they can wiggle around far too often and quite heavily. Maybe this is a reason why nobody has reported this bug so far.

Quite! MACD is sold as one of the most important indicators and yet I don’t have a single strategy that uses it. Glad to hear that I am not the only one.
02/28/2018 at 11:38 PM #6415202/28/2018 at 11:43 PM #64153I actually use MACD in strategies that I run live. Both as entry signal or filter. Works.
I’ll add it to my list to revisit then. Short time frame or long time frame strategies Despair?

Trading is trying to quantify chance to the point where you are willing to put money on it.
