Ok,
This topic seems to be quite dead, pitty we can not come any further.
@Grahal can you point me out how to get your flattened MA with % deviation, that will detect a Stage 1 and 3 on my charts?Thank you ……
05/04/2017 at 2:03 PM #34515Stages 1 and 3 would only be identified once the market has been already in a price range since a while. It would also be the case for stages 2 and 4 though .. So how do you jump into a trade at stage 2 or 4? What is the trigger? Breakout of recent highest high or lowest low?
05/04/2017 at 2:16 PM #34516I think the flattened MA with % deviation from Grahal is worth to test it. It must be possible to find any given MA on any given timeframe that stays flat during stage 1 and 3.
My entry trigger depends on the price action of that moment. This can be a breakout, a (50%) retrace or a often used candlestick setup. As long as it fits my entry trigger criteria it wil do.
05/04/2017 at 3:19 PM #34530For some kind soul (like Nicolas, although he is much overworked!) to code up a Strategy for us we need to define criteria. (I know you know this Marcel but it focuses both our minds?).
The flattened MA I showed just happened to be on my Chart I think it was a MA(60) and x % deviation should be a good Trade entry point during a horizontal Range / Stage 1 or 3.
So let’s keep it simple, to get the ball rolling?
- End of Stage 1 or 3 Entry: x% deviation from MA(y)
- Existing Stage 2 Entry: Breakout from HH
- Existing Stage 4 Entry: Breadown from LL
- Exit at any Point: Failure to make a HH or LL (double top or bottom).
Retracements often start and finish with a double top / bottom, especially on lower TFs?
We can add to above as we go along, for example dojis, haramis and more?

05/04/2017 at 5:13 PM #34563Hi Marcel, in an earlier post you say … my English language is too poor to translate the coding manual … if you use the Chrome browser and right click you can select the option to translate from and to any language.
Technology is wonderful 🙂

05/04/2017 at 8:11 PM #34572Re above / the ‘Guide Translator’ … it was just a thought so we can amend / add to any System together without using up others valuable time?
Also I just realised that you were originally asking for a Screener. What you reckon … we go for an Auto-Trade Strategy then we can Backtest and see if our ideas are any good!? 🙂

05/04/2017 at 8:35 PM #34574The main idea was a screener indeed, because the phases have proven to be consistently profitable for a long time. It would help me a lot if a screener determs the phase any given stock CFD is in. My research time, beside my trading and writing activities, is too limited to concentrate on developing a full strategy. I will help where possible and I guess with the screener I will save time to invest in the development of the strategy.
My latest idea about the flattened MA with % deviation is to add 4 colours, so when a phase is changing the colour of the MA will change as well. Usable?
05/04/2017 at 10:24 PM #34579I guess the problem with coding a Screener is … what stage of the Stage 1, 2, 3 or 4 is the code looking for / defining? A Screener can only check a single bar at the time of running the Screener.
You mention … add 4 colours etc … a Screener either ‘pulls’ or not? How do you see colours as part of a Screener? Or are you thinking of an Indicator?
Even if we went for an Indicator which marked up / labelled a Chart with Stage 1, 2, 3 or 4 then I would think it’s a very clever man who can do … particularly as we are not very forthcoming with definitions / criteria?
I thought an Auto-Strategy might be easier to code? May get some ‘output’ from this Thread?

05/05/2017 at 12:09 AM #34583I said above … screener can only check a single bar at the time of running the Screener … which is not correct.
But a Stage / Phase Screener would need to decide which Stage (1 – 4) the bar that just closed is part of?
Wow … it’s more complex than I thought … you agree Marcel?
GraHal
05/05/2017 at 8:29 AM #34598Yes, it is complex to translate the maket phases to a screener, but if we take a step back, you mentioned pretty good criteria,
- End of Stage 1 or 3 Entry: x% deviation from MA(y)
- Existing Stage 2 Entry: Breakout from HH
- Existing Stage 4 Entry: Breadown from LL
To capture phases 1 and 3 we can think of using the PRT automated support and resistance lines and maybe tweaking those lines to later defined criteria.
As for the colours I think a coloured version of the MA wil do.
