Yes I get above also … I thought it was just me and I had clicked somewhere I shouldn’t!

Looks as though things have move along.

Under ‘Help’ and ‘About’ we now have:

    Last Update: 18 Mar 2024

    And the log contains:

    Version : v12.0.20240215030009

So far no memory/indicator calc issues this evening and the setup feels ‘snappy’, not sure how the automated traders are fairing but this feels like we’re maybe back to a stable setup. Perhaps this mornings FOMC etc dump will put it all to the sword ….. 4.20am local time here so might have an early start and see for myself … 🙂

Hope everyone’s fairing better after the past few weeks of gemlins.

28/03 not far off either, where all ‘manual’ trades are executed as ‘market’ orders by IG.

The optimiser variables window is driving me mad and has been for many months … same for anybody else?

Every single time I open it, I cannot see the whole screen, I have to drag the top border down and then the scroll bar appears and then – if I drag the top border down further down more of the whole screen appears (well weird?) … but this is easier than always having to always scroll to see more!

Why o why can’t PRT windows have a max / min setting in the top right hand corner and then the window retain it’s setting etc????  Is this a legacy restriction from PRT ‘old origins’??

Does above ring any bells with anybody … are you having the same problems … @PeterSt?

Has anybody submitted the problem to PRT??

    #231223

Even the optimiser Results Table needs the view / layout optimising in the settings that show the ticked and unticked variables.

I’ve yet to find a useful way to use those ticked and unticked variables … anybody care to enlighten me?

I know I could untick variables I am not optimising and then tick variables I am optimising, but who wants to be bothered doing all that faff?

Also if I tick all the variables, they don’t ALL seem to show in the results window anyway?

And in v12, no more than about 8 variables show alongside the Algo title … it’s like it’s all going from bad to worse due to changes made to features in v12 that all worked fine in v11??

Also if I tick all the variables, they don’t ALL seem to show in the results window anyway?

Not sure whether this helps. I was surprised also that the optimisation table didn’t show all variables that participated in it. I right clicked the header row of this table and chose “configure this zone”. That’s when a popup shows, containing ALL variables participating in the optimisation, but not necessarily all ticked. See capture. Just tick it.

    #231229

It seems though that if I start an optimise run with some variables unticked then – even when I do tick them – they still don’t appear in the results table.

It seems to be ‘find one workaround’ after another and all involve so many clicks with the mouse which are not needed if the forms / screens / windows are designed / developed as users use them!

With no roadmap for users to see what is being developed / fixed by PRT we are all in the dark wondering if anybody else has reported the various problems??

It’s ‘same old, same old’ … nothing changes re visibility to users of what PRT are working on to fix problems?

    #231237

Also the variables in the results table do NOT appear in the same sequence / position as they appear in the optimiser window where we enter the min, max and step values … so it all adds to rising frustration when trying to complete optimisation runs.

The only place I have found where the variable value results of an optimisation appear in the same sequence / position as the variable min, max and step values … is alongside the Algo title!

However, since V12 even this luxury is now denied us for more than about 8 variable values, because – for reason known only to PRT – we cannot see > about 8 variable values, all we see is …) fx.

(Note of Info: I have put in a Suggestion to PRT that the problem in the paragraph immediately above is rectified).

    Yep.
Immediately after this new “functionality” (3-4 months ago ?) I provided PRT a Technical Report with the very same complaint and proposal to solve it by means of sustaining the size I left behind last time.
I never heard anything about it but am reminding of it daily (with annoyance) because, well, I am reminded about it daily.

I seriously wonder … what the heck is someone doing when he/she finally attacks the issue of the always so small window and next creates a solution where the window is too large which is even more odd and faulty on top of it (because of lacking vertical scrollbars).

Btw, the width always was a problem (always a tad too small) but is now even more of a problem when you enter text in the 2nd column which is a bit wide and which won’t wrap, so next the form is always way too wide. And a horizontal scrollbar really is not the solution for such a form (not workable).

GraHal, Grumpy … don’t bring me in that mood !
    🙂

That Result window does its stinkin’ best to NOT show the variables you like to see. It feels as upside down AI. … Nobody will understand its working, but once you know that it is as it is, it is 10 times better than it was previously. And improving …

The last improvement I saw was the auto-addition to teh result list (visible and all !)  of new variables added to the Optimization Variables themselves. Or that they vanish from the result list when they vanish (done by you) from the Parameters.
The pain of course sits in the combination of a. already existing variables not showing (maybe this is caused by copying to a new System ?) and b. the seemingly random list they appear i the list to choose from (at using the wrench).

What about the size of the Result window being maintained eh ? was asked for a 1000 times and now finally does that (since V12 I’d say). But it also remembers the side per instrument you are backtesting.
In general it saves a lot of time compared to how it was. What remains is that it should guess better which variables I want to see; something is dynamic in there, but it does not work out.
On a side note : I still work as much in V11 as in V12, but working (backtesting) in V11 is always a pain. You could say : own fault with over 40 variables, but … in V12 this is now great.

No, net I can’t complain about this. This relates to : what’s to be done has to be done only very irregularly. Compare this with V11 and dragging columns you don’t need smaller and others wider, while from none of them you can see the content. And that each day (actually each PRT session) for each instrument.

I am happy with it… however on 4K screens the windows appear misplaced after screen was locked in Windows and then unlocked… and I like to execute the JAR file natively. But no luck so far

Can’t place alerts. When I click on chart nothing happens. Both options for alerts do absolutely nothing. Anyone else get the same issue?

    #231388

I’ve just set an alert, works fine.  Are you sure you are trying top set the alert in a blank area?

If we set an alert near to a trendline or a drawn line (for example) the alert line snaps to the trend line and it appears that we have not set an alert.

Look for the ’round alert icon’ at the end of a trendline or a near drawn line to see if you are doing above.

Well weird happening on Demo … 2 Systems that both show -£20+ as Latent Gain in the prorder running systems window … I stopped the systems and they both show a gain of £2+ in the Orders List!

I’ll try more coffee to see if that helps 😀

    #231406

A strong coffee did help … I can see what is happening now … each time I stop the systems, a Latent Gain loss is being increased by £20.

    A -£18 ish becomes £2 ish.

Just stopped 2 other Systems (both with different code / strategy) and same thing happens to them … £20 added to a Loss each time … at least the weirdness is consistent! 🙁

    #231409

That would be the spread taken ?
(as far as my observations go, it can be taken at the entry, at the exit or both (the latter split by some percentage).
