Hello, first time post, please be nice to me! I am trying to backtest on the DJIA Wall Street Cash 5min. If I set the chart for 40000 x units, I can see back to the end of Jan 2020, but if I go above 40000, for example 60,000 no more history is displayed. This is the same for all TF’s up to 1 day, only shows history from end of January. The Daily is allowing me to go back further. Only seems to be a problem on the DJIA, works fine on other instruments.
A second query is whether it is possible to backtest for a period last year, ie. to backtest the period Jan 1 2019 – March 1 2019, a period which doesn’t go from the current date backwards.
Thanks for your help.

Yes just select the dates from and to you want in the right hand side of backtest window, same place as you set up spread.

Please post screen shot of what you are seeing.
06/08/2020 at 11:40 AM #135161Hi, thanks for your reply. Four screenshots attached. The first, 30000 units shows the date range when I ask for 30000 x units for the DJIA Wall Street Cash on the 5 min chart (same problem on anything less than 1 day). Earliest date shown 29th Jan 2020. Second chart shows what happens when I ask for 50000 units, earliest date remains the same. Same thing happens if I ask for anything higher, ie. 70000 or 100000 units. Only have this problem on the DJIA.
Third screenshot shows ProBackTest dates, requesting 2/1/19 > 30/6/19. Fourth screenshot shows error message. Again this only happens on the DJIA not on other instruments.

06/08/2020 at 12:49 PM #135186Attached is what I get on 5 min TF on 100,000 bars … so we are the same?
Post a screen shot of 1 H TF on 100,000 bars and I’ll tell you what I get.

06/08/2020 at 12:53 PM #135188No, we’re not the same. Your chart goes back to Jan 2019, mine starts in Jan 2020. I can’t get any of 2019 on my charts
06/08/2020 at 1:04 PM #135189To eliminate incomparables … you try it on same as me … DJI (DFB) … see at the top of the Chart I posted.

06/08/2020 at 1:40 PM #13519306/08/2020 at 5:57 PM #135222When I type DJI into the search box, I get three options. Wall Street Cash $2, Wall Street Cash $10 and Wall Street Cash. I was using the third one, which shows as DOW on the chart. But I can see that if I choose the first or the second, Wall Street Cash $10 or Wall Street $2, this allows me to display the full date range. So this solves the problem, I will just do my backtesting using Wall Street $10. I am on the CFD platform.
Grahal you have been incredibly helpful, many thanks. Solved.

06/08/2020 at 10:14 PM #135250As you show a UK flag, I take it you know that if you use the Spreadbet (SB) platform then you will pay no tax on profits?
Okay the first £12,300 on CFD is tax allowable … I hear you say … I (you) should be so lucky!!
But there are other advantages on the SB Platform … minimum position size is for example, £0.2 on DJI and £0.5 on DAX.
Compare that to $2 on CFD and you can see you could have 10 Systems trading for the same outlay / risk as 1 System trading at $2 position size.
I think you may need to tick a box in Settings on IG to enable the PRT Spreadbet Platform.
Just say if you cant get the SB working.
